Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij too jumped into the controversy on Tuesday and said, "I am astonished that in a democracy we need court's permission to express ourselves".
The film was supposed to be released on December 1 but the makers have deferred it indefinitely. "Padmavati" director Sanjay Leela Bhansali said reports that the film was being released overseas were incorrect and added that he would await certification. "We will restart our plan (the release date) once we get the censor certificate", a source close to the producers said.
This is the second petition on the same issue filed by advocate ML Sharma to be dismissed by the bench, which also comprised Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud. They recently applied for 3D certification.
Police In Melbourne Foil Alleged 'New Year's Eve Terror Plot'
The man was believed to be planning the New Year's Eve attack on his own and police are investigating how he became radicalized. One of the charges reportedly carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Bhansali has also been questioned on why he screened the movie for the media before getting the CBFC clearance.
Various Rajput groups and political leaders have accused Bhansali of distorting history in the movie by using a romantic dream sequence between the Rajput queen Padmini and Alauddin Khilji, a claim repeatedly denied by the filmmaker. "He also has to tell us why the film was not shown to the people who actually had objections to it".
Censor board Chairman Prasoon Joshi appeared before a parliamentary panel to brief members about the controversy over "Padmavati" and said the film had not yet been approved. This will be prejudice and moreover, he said that the bench has asked the CBFC to take the decision on the certification of the movie with the utmost objectivity.
Meghan Markle Says She's Leaving Acting To Focus On Royal Duties
Kensington Palace said that Windsor Castle, a royal residence west of London, had become "a special place" for the couple. The bride-to-be will also become a United Kingdom citizen but the process could take a number of years.
"There is no intention to do so, as of now", he said, informing the court that it would harm the movie's business interest if it is screened overseas before release in India.
Bhansali's magnum opus, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, has been facing protests from various groups, especially from Shree Rajput Karni Sena, for allegedly tampering historical facts.
