It's official. Willie Taggart will be Florida State's next head coach.
Just one day after Jimbo Fisher was officially introduced as the new head coach at Texas A&M, Florida state has reportedly landed its top target to replace him. In his one year as the OR head coach, the 41-year-old improved the Ducks from 4-8 to 7-5, ensuring their bowl eligibility this season. Before that, he spent four seasons as the head coach at USF.
History has shown that more often than not when a head coach takes another job before the bowl game his former team does not perform all that well.

He has a chance to become the sixth Sooner Heisman victor and the first Heisman victor to begin his career as a "walk-on" athlete. He now leads the nation in passing efficiency rating, completion percentage, yards per pass and multiple other categories.
He then accepted a scholarship to Western Kentucky, where he flourished as a 4-year starter from 1994-1998 and became a finalist for the Walter Payton Award in each of his last two seasons.
Taggart grew up in Florida and coached at the University of South Florida before joining the Ducks. The Bradenton, Fla., native led South Florida to a 10-2 record and top-25 finish in 2016 before accepting the OR job. Taggart also coached running backs at Stanford under Jim Harbaugh.
Haggins led the Seminoles (6-6) to a 42-10 win over Louisiana-Monroe in Saturday's regular-season finale. "The University of OR is a high-caliber academic institution with one of the premier college football programs in the country, and we are confident that we will find another outstanding coach to lead our tremendous group of student-athletes into the future". From there, the Ducks lost four of their next five after an injury to starting quarterback Justin Herbert.

Fisher went 82-23 in eight seasons at Florida State, leading the Seminoles to eight straights bowls and a BCS National Championship Game victory against Auburn in 2013.
They won their final three games to finish 6-6 and extend their bowl streak to 36 consecutive seasons. Co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Mario Cristobal will be the interim head coach when OR faces Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 16.
