A statement issued by San Marcos, Texas, officials said 58-year-old Officer Kenneth Copeland died Monday afternoon after being shot multiple times by a suspect while Copeland was serving a warrant.
Officials did not disclose the identity of the suspect nor the charge for which he was wanted.
The statement says Copeland was wearing a protective vest at the time of the shooting. He was rushed to Central Texas Medical Center where he died from his wounds.

The smaller fire on the northern edge of Los Angeles also burned some homes, but no estimates were released. Two buildings have been destroyed and thousands of homes are without power, according to reports.
The San Marcos Daily Record reported at 4 p.m. that the shooter was barricaded inside the home and a SWAT team had been called in to help. It's unknown if the injury was from an officer's gun or his own. The chief declined to offer further details about the nature of the shooting or the arrest warrant Copeland was serving.
A press conference is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Chief Stapp said the loss of Officer Copeland is painful for many in the police department. Copeland is succeeded by his wife and four sons. "They're simply trying to protect us from harm and that's what officer Copeland was doing today", said Lumbreras.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service early Saturday morning issued a winter weather advisory for the northern Oregon Cascades. The Met Office says that cold arctic air is expected to spread south across all parts of England through Thursday .
