President Donald Trump has urged Sen.
President Donald Trump hasn't forgotten those words or Romney's other criticisms of him, and there is talk that he is trying to keep Romney out of the U.S. Senate by encouraging 83-year-old Orrin Hatch to run for reelection.
Romney has been a critic of Trump's when he ran for president and since he assumed office.
However, Utah Republican House Speaker Greg Hughes maintained Romney "could be a great ally of the president, but, as you well know, they're very different people and have very different personalities".
The Atlantic reported in April that Romney, formerly governor of MA and the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, was considering the possibility of running for Hatch's seat.
Director Bryan Singer fired from upcoming Queen biopic
His no-shows resulted in cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel having to step in to helm some of the days while Singer was missing. Producers at the time only said that filming was stopped because of Singer's "unexpected unavailability".
Hatch spokesman Matthew Whitlock said "the senator appreciates the president's support and plans to make a decision on whether or not to run again by the end of the year".
But Trump, who has clashed with Romney in the past, said he wants Hatch to run for re-election.
"Whether it's confirming judges, passing tax reform or accomplishing any part of his agenda, Hatch is a key player in getting anything done", Hatch spokesman Matt Whitlock said late Sunday.
The report also stated two senior administration officials who said Trump's favor for Hatch is not only for blocking Romney, but also because Hatch defended the president during a turbulent time when an "Access Hollywood" video tape leaked, which showed the POTUS bragging about sexually assaulting women.
Trump has mostly tried to sway Hatch behind the scenes.
Supreme Court rejects Texas case on gay marriage benefits
The city of Houston appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, arguing that it violated the precedent established by Obergefell . Supreme Court, which today rejected the case without comment, the Austin American-Statesman reports.
"You are a true fighter, Orrin, I have to say", Trump said at an event in Salt Lake City, Utah's capital.
Hatch, the president pro tem of the Senate, recently tweeted that Trump is the best president he has served under in the line of succession.
Romney has called out Trump several times.
After Trump was elected, Romney was among the candidates interviewed for secretary of state but he has remained critical of the president on social media. In August, Romney demanded Trump apologize for saying that both sides were to blame for violence at a white-supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. "His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University", Romney said.
