The Bihar Congress on Saturday asserted that Lalu Prasad's conviction in a fodder scam case will not have any impact on the party's ties with the RJD in the state. The court also imposed Rs 5 Lakh fine on Lalu. "It is clear that the BJP-RSS combine is scared of Lalu even while he is in jail and is doing all that it can to silence Lalu's voice", said Tejashwi, while addressing a press conference.

The fodder scam involved the embezzlement of more than Rs. 970 crore in government funds in the 1990s during Lalu Yadav's term as the Chief Minister of undivided Bihar from 1990 to 1997. "Lalu Prasad Yadav has blessings of the almighty and we have faith that he will get justice".
In the fodder scam case, out of 22 accused, 16 were convicted.
"An open jail is best for these people (convicts), as they also have experience of cow farming", the judge was quoted as saying by the ANI. Lalu Prasad was convicted for fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89 lakh from the Deoghar treasury during 1991-94.

Lalu Prasad is at present cooling his heels in Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi. "But they should remember that we still have High Court and Supreme Court to appeal against the judgement by CBI court", said Tejashwi.
In 2013, Prasad was convicted in the first fodder scam case and was sentenced to five years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs25 lakh by another special CBI court.
