Winfrey's "time is up" phrase was a reference to the Time's Up initiative launched by prominent women in Hollywood to address sexual harassment in entertainment, politics, tech and other industries.
There were other moments, unrelated to this through line: Tommy Wiseau, the eccentric (probably an understatement) writer-director of the terrible (probably an understatement) 2003 film The Room, joined James Franco on stage as Franco accepted the award for outstanding lead actor in a comedy or musical for playing Wiseau in The Disaster Artist.
On Sunday, Oprah Winfrey made history by becoming the first African-American woman to win the Golden Globe lifetime achievement award.
The #MeToo culminated in one of the greatest speeches ever given at an awards show.
"I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon", Winfrey said, as the crowd jumped to their feet for a second time. As is so often the case, the women being heard were mostly white, and numerous off-screen creators of the pieces they'd worked on are men. And that may have been exactly what Winfrey wanted.
"In 2011, I told some jokes about our current president at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, jokes about how he was unqualified to be president", Meyers said during his opening monologue.

I think all the managers around the world have to control. "But it finished on the pitch and that's over". The second one was a magnificent assist with good dribbling and finishing.
For now, it's all just talk.
"Thanks for your VOTE of confidence!" responded Winfrey on Twitter.
But King pushed back: "People ask it all the time".
"It is the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and to injustice, to tyrants and victims and secrets and lies", she said. I'd love to have Oprah.
"She's lost her mind now", Winfrey said.
That's not to say Winfrey can't claim any significant political influence.
Hollywood's loathing of Trump and bafflement that a crass-talking reality star with no previous government experience could win the presidency have fueled talk of well, why not another television star, only one with the "right" politics?

"But now she doesn't have a choice".
Earlier in the evening, Globes host Seth Meyers actually teed up the speculation.
He referred to the 2011 White House Correspondents Association dinner when he and Barack Obama mocked the idea of Trump becoming U.S. president. "I also heard on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" over the years you always have the right to change your mind, but I would bet my first, second born and any unborn children to come, that ain't never happening". So, if that's true, I just want to say: Oprah, you will never be president!
