The North's conciliatory moves related to the Olympics have generally been welcomed in the South.
"We're headed to the Olympics, and there may be a possibility for any kind of an encounter with North Koreans, whether it be informal or whether it take the form of a meeting", Pence told reporters in Japan before setting off for South Korea.
"We are coordinating closely with the Republic of Korea regarding North Korean participation in the Olympics".
Before departing for Korea, Pence announced that the US would unveil in coming days "the toughest and most aggressive round of economic sanctions on North Korea ever". In addition to showing support for our US athletes, the Vice President will show his confidence in and appreciation for our USA military stationed in the region.
