The Pennsylvania race follows Democratic victories late a year ago in Virginia and Alabama, fueled in large part by what some analysts see as an anti-Trump theme that continues to build. There is a process in place, however, for Saccone's supporters to request a recount when the counties have all the provisional and overseas military ballots and they have been counted.
Democrat Conor Lamb said Wednesday that he will work with President Donald Trump on infrastructure and other issues "that are really important to us here in western Pennsylvania", during an interview Wednesday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe".
The campaign is also challenging Allegheny County officials over the initial exclusion of one of its attorneys from the vote count, according to a letter to the county from Kathleen Gallagher, the attorney representing the campaign.
Singapore leaders congratulate Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang on reappointments
Mr Xi received all 2,970 votes for the presidency and for his position as head of the Central Military Commission . Mr Lee also wrote to Mr Li Keqiang to congratulate him on his re-appointment as the Chinese Premier.
"We feel confident based on the way we ran this and our efforts to get absentee ballots to people who needed them", Lamb said.
While the Wisconsin Republican argued Republicans need to focus on their legislative track record in Congress and avoid being outraised, he still said he doubts this will become a trend in Republican-leaning districts because there wasn't a primary. Trump won the district by almost 20 points and campaigned for Republican candidate Rick Saccone down the stretch.
This election marks the second high-profile victory for Democrats in traditionally Republican territory.
As a national proposition, this election year is shaping up as a referendum on an unpopular president and the party in power, which guarantees that Republicans will find themselves in many tough races.
With Lamb holding a narrow lead, Pelosi said in a brief interview with The Associated Press that the triumph is "already there".
It won't be known for a few weeks how much cash Lamb has on hand after Tuesday's election, but he proved himself a strong fundraiser, raising more than $4 million for his special election bid. And besides, the GOP enthusiasm for Lamb is a relatively new phenomenon, as the party spent the campaign depicting him as a leftist radical who, counterfactually, LOVES Nancy Pelosi.
Israeli Jets Pound Hamas Positions in Gaza After Bomb Explodes on Border
The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas hailed the car-ramming incident but did not say it was behind it. Israel's defense minister later called for executing the attacker and demolishing his family's home.
Many predicted a fairly comfortable win for Lamb, but Trump's visit helped, just not enough.
In 2016, President Donald Trump narrowly won the communities that make up this new district, which is substantially less friendly to Republicans than Rothfus' current one.
When it came to campaigns and elections, former Speaker of the House Thomas Phillip "Tip" O'Neill religiously subscribed to the philosophy that "all politics is local".
Publicly, Ryan was more upbeat, blaming the Pennsylvania outcome in a Trump-heavy district on Lamb's centrist views. "I just don't think you're going to see that across the country".
Lamb is the apparent victor of the special election in Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district.
