"13 Reasons Why" has courted controversy since its release in March of a year ago, facing backlash from suicide prevention advocacy groups who say the program glamorizes suicide, the second leading cause of death among those ages 15 to 34, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Additionally, Netflix announced that it is adding crisis resources and a viewing guide to 13ReasonsWhy.Info, and will start a new after-show titled Beyond the Reasons, where actors, experts, and educators will break down the series. In addition to the new site, warning videos will also be added to every episode in Season 1 on Netflix.
"13 Reasons Why is a fictional series that tackles tough, real-world issues, taking a look at sexual assault, substance abuse, suicide and more", the stars say in the video. They will feel pandered to.
"13 Reasons Why" is undergoing some changes in Season 2 to help facilitate discussions between parents and teens about hard topics like suicide, bullying, and sexual assault. The study was a response to that.

The study didn't prove a link between the show and actual suicides.
Brian Wright, Netflix's vice president of original series, told BuzzFeed News that Netflix launched these changes after the show received heavy criticism for its depictions of suicide.
This isn't to say that the producers behind "13 Reasons Why" are denying that there might be an issue with suicidal teens getting ideas from the story. Picking up six years after this time, The Rain follows two Danish siblings who emerge from a bunker to find most all of civilization gone.
"Our analyses suggest 13 Reasons Why, in its present form, has both increased suicidal awareness while unintentionally increasing suicidal ideation", the study's authors wrote. "For instance, "how to commit suicide", "commit suicide" and "how to kill yourself" were all significantly higher". The show also caused a bit of controversy because some critics felt the show glorified suicide.
However, two families in California claimed that the show triggered their daughters to commit suicide.
