A Brazilian Mac magazine - it's called MacMagazine - claims to have uncovered a security hole in iOS 11. According to the report, the bug works on third-party email apps, Facebook Messenger and even Slack.
We've reached out to Apple and will update this story if we receive a response. Until Apple solves this issue, what you can do is to turn off the lock screen notifications for apps of which you don't want Siri to read out loud.
Well, the bug allowed Siri to read out lock screen notifications from third-party apps, even if you had your message previews turned off and the phone locked.
Syrian Army takes town in Eastern Ghouta
It was offered by the Syrian army to Ahrar al-Sham rebels, who until recently controlled the key town of Harasta in the north-west.
One of the hallmarks of iOS 11 on the iPhone X is that it automatically hides the content of your messages from the home screen. Without checking if it was the user issuing the command, Siri would begin to reel off all of the notifications aloud, including those designated as hidden.
To disable notifications for apps, you need to go to Settings, then select Notifications. From what I can tell, as long as they don't show up on the lock screen, Siri will say that you don't have any new notifications and ignore those arriving in the background. This is a serious bug since it effectively removes a layer of security.
Liquidation sale to begin at Staten Island Toys R Us
If you haven't heard by now, I'm sorry I have to be the one to break it to you, but Toys R Us is going out of business. Toys "R" Us is preparing to shutter stores even as another venerable toy retailer is plotting a comeback.
The company is yet to provide a timeline for the update, but users in the meantime can go ahead and disable Siri when the phone is locked to ensure that hidden notifications remain private. But the bug doesn't affect stock apps like Mail and iMessage.
Thankfully there are some basic settings that can prevent Siri from reading out your personal messages without authentication, but it takes a toll at some of your convenience. We tried again and again to get Siri to read texts, but it demanded we unlock our iPhones first.
Under the "When Unlocked" setting, you can choose from "Always" and 'Never'.
