While the date for that meeting has not been finalized, the White House had previously said it would occur before the end of May. Abe said he would ask Trump to bring up the issue of past North Korean abductions of Japanese citizens, during the USA president's expected summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Reuters reports. And now, with Abe also set to meet Trump ahead of that key meeting, it is clear that no side is ready to leave any diplomatic stone unturned at the moment.
Abe is also expected to discuss new US tariffs. It would be the first meeting between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader.
