General Thanduxolo Mandela said a word of thanks on behalf of the family. The King called on the people to emulate Madikizela Mandela, saying: "More Winnies must rise".
Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, an anti-apartheid activist from her volition, was born on September 26, 1936 in Bizana in the Transkei (Eastern Cape) and died on April 2 aged 81.
She said Madikizela Mandela suffered at the brutality of the Apartheid government and humiliation. "It is important to honour her and continue the fight". They could not break her. Since apartheid ended in the 1990s, she served in several government roles, including as a member of parliament and leader of the ruling party's women's league.
Her daughter, Zenani Mandela-Dlamini, was among the speakers at the funeral. They could not silence her. "She was one of us".
