A medical team was dispatched to investigate the incident, and on Wednesday State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said "a number" of people connected to the consulate in Guangzhou have been evacuated to the US for further evaluation.
Ms Nauert also said that remaining USA government personnel and their families in Guangzhou would also be able to request testing if they "noted concerning symptoms or wanted baseline screening".
"U.S. medical professionals will continue to conduct full evaluations to determine the cause of the reported symptoms and whether the findings are consistent with those noted in previously affected government personnel or possibly completely unrelated", Nauert said.
Late last month, the State Department officially acknowledged that one China-based USA employee experienced a "variety of physical symptoms" from late 2017 through April 2018.

Earlier this week, EPA's director of scheduling and advance, Millan Hupp, gave notice of her departure; her last day is Friday. Joni Ernst, a staunchly conservative Republican from Iowa, suggested Pruitt should resign.
A department spokesperson said the agency was not specifying the exact number of people evacuated, saying it was due to medical privacy concerns.
Other veteran foreign policy experts have said Cuba is a playground for so many rogue actors from across the globe, including Russia, China, Iran, and Venezuela, that any one of those countries or agents working on their behalf could be responsible. But President Donald Trump and other USA officials have accused Cuba of having targeted US personnel with some kind of "acoustic sonic weapon" for unknown reasons, an allegation the Cuban government has forcefully denied.
Last month the U.S. issued a health alert to its citizens in China after one of its consulate workers suffered a mild traumatic brain injury, similar to a string of mysterious medical problems among USA diplomats in Cuba past year.
The New York Times reported that at least two employees removed from China experienced unusual noises while there. China said last month that it had found no explanation.
Chinese officials earlier said that they had looked into last month's case but came up with no clues about the cause of the symptoms. More State Department employees have been evacuated. The US embassy issued a health advisory for Americans living in China.
